The story behind the image

County Cork in Ireland is a beautiful space, and Cork is a small, vibrant city full of beautiful photo opportunities.

The sun was about to set as we walked along a side arm of the River Lee. At French’s Quay the sun was reflecting in one of the windows triggering yet another nice photo. In 2024, Forde’s Funeral Home and D. Forde & Sons – the two buildings at the end of the Quay – still looked like back in 1999 when I took the photo. Pete O’Sullivan, the home appliance store in the second house on the left, has turned into a modern Euronics store, and Southbank Moviews (probably a rental video store) has closed the business.

Comparing past and present, I have to tell you for transparency reasons that I removed the cables hanging across the street that were really cluttering the image. The cables were still present in May 2024 by the way. Here’s the original image as it came from the scanner:
