The story behind the image
Ireland has a long Christian history, also expressed by numerous high crosses that can be found all over the island of Ireland.
This high cross is located just outside of the village Monasterboice in Co. Louth at the local graveyard. Situated next to a high tower, it is an impressive sight that shows key scenes from the bible.
I used genuine black and white negative film – unusual even back in 1999 – for this photo, and I love the simplistic look that centers the cross perfectly. The high contrast helps identifying the individual scenes.
Love it.
