The story behind the image
In Ucluelet on Vancouver Island we stayed at the wonderful Ebb Tide B&B which was situated almost at the end of the Peninsula Road. From here, it is just a short walk to the Amphitrite Lighthouse and the head of the The Wild Pacific Trail. It is an easy trail, but has fantastic views of the rugged coastline of the Pacific.
This Bald Eagle was sitting on a dead tree next to the B&B, and our host mentioned that it is a regular guest. I grabbed my 300 mm tele lens and took a photo of the large bird. Sadly, the slide film shows its limitations with such a high-contrast image as the head of the eagle seems to be slightly overexposed while the feathers in the shadow seem to be slightly underexposed.
Well, well, those were the days, and I was very happy with the result back then. (Even today, I think the composition is awesome. I just wish I had the nice equipment I have today.)
