The story behind the image
On Christmas 1946, the kids – my mother Inga (left) and my aunt Editha (right) – had received their white fur coats, and a few days later they were already needed when posing for this photo in Malente-Gremsmühlen, about 40 km outside of Kiel. The winter 1946/47 was another cold winter, and the coats effectively protected against the cold weather. Of course, today it is not appropriate to wear genuine fur coats at all – but these were different times.
I really like the happiness visible in their faces, the joy about the fresh, deep snow.
Lovely.
