The story behind the image
Unterhaching in Bavaria is situated directly south of Munich, and during winter there can be lots of snow. A bit over a year ago, on the 1st December 2023, heavy snowfall set in around 3 pm, and it kept snowing heavily for a full 24 hours! On the next morning I grabbed my camera, made my way through the snowflakes and took some first impressions.
The photo above shows the tracks of the S-Bahn (the public suburban train system) near the Unterhaching station. They were completely covered by snow, and apparently no train had passed for several hours. On weekdays, there’s a train passing every few minutes, and on weekends several times per hour. Not so on this morning. The public train system for Munich had come to a complete stop:
