The story behind the image
Glasgow is one of the two big cities in Scotland, situated in its center. The river Clyde provides the strategic access to the west coast and to the Atlantic Ocean. This feature turned the city into an important harbour.
As such it has the best of everything: convenient access to the seaside at the west coast (but not too heavily exposed to it) as well as being a gateway to the Highlands and rural north of Scotland. Edinburgh is not too far away either, just a one hour drive by car (and even shorter by train .)
My photo shows Buchanan Street in the city center, which is one of the premium shopping areas of Glasgow. In the center of the image you can see the former entrance to the subway station St. Enoch Square. Today, the building is obstructed by a new steel and glass entrance (making this another image that cannot be taken today anymore.)
We wanted to see the north of Scotland and so we just stopped in Glasgow for a few hours – too short for such a lively and culturally rich city. Next time we need to spend more time here. 🙂
