The story behind the image

In 2004 we went on a sailing trip with Petra’s father. Back then, he owned a yacht and enjoyed his retirement by crusing the Baltic Sea from early May to mid-September. We joined him for a week in summer and came on board in Laboe near Kiel, Germany.

While Laboe has been a tourist spot for a long time, the village has been able to preserve its charms with its long clean beach, historical harbour and small buildings. Yet it has everything you’d expect from a summer destination, and the city of Kiel is nearby.

After checking in with the father-in-law, we went to the harbour to get some tasty and fresh sea food and watched the sunset over the Baltic Sea. Imagine our joy when the AIDAblu, a big cruise ship, passed on its way to the Nordics. What a sight!

By the way, the ship carried the name AIDAblu just from 2004 to 2007. After a long winded history of brand and ownership changes, the cruise ship was scrapped in 2020 in India. Wikipedia has all the details (in German.)
