The story behind the image
This image is part of a bigger lot of cabinet photos and carte de visites (CdVs). At least five images show members of the Schütze and Osswald family in Weimar, Thuringia, Germany.
A handwritten comment on the back of this cabinet photo by Karl Blau in Weimar mentions the name Gertud Osswald and the event Confirmation 1917. This information was a good starting point for some research. Here’s what I could find out about Mrs. Osswald.
| First name | Magdalena Sophia Gertrud |
| Last name | Osswald |
| Date and place of birth | 19th November 1902 in Weimar, Germany |
| Date and place of baptization | 29th March 1903 in Weimar |
| Father | Karl Reinhard Gotthilf Osswald |
| Mother | Emilie Therese Hedwig Osswald, born Schütze |
| Date and place of confirmation | 1st April 1917 in Weimar |
| Date and place of death | 1985, Weimar, German Democratic Republic |
At the time of writing, it was unclear to me whether she got married, or whether she had kids. Yet, I hope this information is useful for researchers of the Schütze / Osswald families in Thuringia. If you need a copy of the image, please feel free to contact me.
Oh, and yes, I like the portrait.
