The story behind the image
In 2000, we did a road trip through Italy. When we started in Munich, we really did not have a concrete plan where we would stay. We had some ideas, sure, but we had not booked any hotels or B&Bs. To be on the safe side, we took a tent and sleeping bags.
We entered Tuscany from the North-West, coming from Cinque Terre and visited the historic town of Lucca.
I took this photo from the top of the Mura di Lucca, a sturdy wall that entirely surrounds the historical town center. It’s so massive that you can talk long walks and runs along the alleys that have been planted on the top.
By the way, I remember that we almost lost our car in Lucca. We had found a parking lot in the town center but did not write down the exact location. (This was a time without smart phones or interactive maps.) Naively, we thought we would easily find the car when we wanted to continue the journey. Not so. The streets looked all quite similar, and when the time came, we had forgotten where the car was. We walked through the streets, hoping to find it, somewhere.
After 30 minutes of searching we finally found it again.
