The story behind the image
Unterhaching is situated directly south of Munich, and during winter there can be lots of snow. About a year ago, on the 1st December 2023, heavy snowfall set in around 3 pm, and it kept snowing heavily for a full 24 hours! On the next morning I grabbed my camera to take some first impressions.
This photo shows the Rathausplatz. This former English phone cell used to be a real phone cell until cell phones took over and demand for phone cells stalled. The phone was removed and the box has been converted into a place for free book exchange.
As you can see, the phone cell is covered by snow, probably 35 cm by then, but it would snow another 15 to 20 cm until afternoon when it finally stopped snowing.
Such masses of snow are an unusual sight and have caused serious trouble for the people as public transport and basically any form of transportation had basically come to a halt.
The clouds on that morning were so heavy that it was quite dark. I had to boost ISO to 1600 to enable a shot at 1/80 sec. with f-stop 4.
