The story behind the image
Tuscany and Umbria are extremely beautiful, especially when you leave the beaten tracks and take the smaller roads (Strada Statale) to discover the area.
We did this, extensively, during our long road trip through Italy in 2000. My image shows the ruins of a farm house – in Italian La Vecchia Masseria – that sits on top of a hill. Sadly, I can’t say where I shot the image exactly, and I don’t know the time of the day either. I guess it was still morning as we tend to slow down on photography towards the end of the day (and focus on finding our accommodation for the night.)
Anyway, I’ve tried to research the image location to no avail. Yet I love the gently curved hill, the colors, and the isolation of the building.
Simple, yet beautiful.
P.S.: I found an awesome photo by Paolo Gaetano on Getty Images that shows the farmhouse from almost the same location as mine. The image was uploaded in 2017, so it seems that the building has been successfully restored. A location is not provided, though (just Umbria.)
