The story behind the image
In December 2009 we spent a couple of days in Salzburg, Austria, to experience the traditional Christmas Market. During our visit the entire region was struck by very low temperatures that could go down to -20 °C at night (and only slightly higher during the day.) But this could not stop us from walking up to the Fortress and continue the walk towards the Mönchsberg. Along the route – from the patio of the Stadtalm restaurant – we encountered this awesome view. The clarity from the cold temperatures, the pale sunlight and the total absence of green colors make this photo very special (I think).
Oh, and Salzburg in winter is genuinely beautiful.
