The story behind the image

Dresden is Germany is a fantastic destination for a weekend trip in summer. It is a vibrant city with a long and rich history that shows almost everywhere.

One of the absolute highlights is the Dresdner Zwinger, said to be one of the most important Baroque buildings in Germany. It was built in 1709 during the reign of Augustus the Strong – a patron of the arts and architecture – as an orangery, garden and representative area for festivities.

Back in 2002 we visited Dresden for the first time, and we were impressed by the beauty of the city and the gardens of the Zwinger palace. At the time of writing, the interior gardens shown on my photo are under construction and cannot be accessed. However, the plans say that the works will be completed by the end of the year 2024, so in 2025 the gardens should be open to the public again.

Oh, and here’s the official website of the Dresdner Zwinger.
