The story behind the image
In 2012 we did a mini road trip to Italy that brought us to Bologna, Saturnia, Castiglione della Pescaia, Verona, and Soave. The magic of that trip was the vast difference between the destinations:
- Bologna – A normal, yet beautiful major city in Northern Italy
- Saturnia – Thermal springs in the middle of Tuscany
- Castiglione della Pescaia – Long and beautiful beaches that are part of Tuscany
- Verona – A touristic hotspot
- Soava – The center of the Soave wine region, often overlooked by tourists
My image shows the Cascate del Mulino near Saturnia Therme. It’s a public bath next to a former water mill and it’s powered by the natural hot springs. We were on our way to Castiglione della Pescaia on a hot afternoon, and the outlook of taking a hot bath on a hot day was not really exciting, so we skipped this one. But it’s a pretty unique experience for sure.
