The story behind the image
Here’s another exciting image from our 2003 trip to the south-west of the United States. It shows Caesar’s Palace, the iconic hotel at the The Strip. I shot this image around sunset time, and I love the subtle illumination. I can’t say whether this is from articicial lights strategically placed around the building, or from reflections of nearby highrises. But I love the result.
Speaking of highrises. This is another example for the (sometimes irrevocable) changes that can take place in a city. Why is that? Well, you could not shoot this image today. Today, there is a highrise building behind the hotel on the left. This changes the look competetly. Gone is the cozy look that suggests an isolated place maybe in ancient Rome. Now the building is dwarfed by the buildings that surround the hotel. Too bad.
