The story behind the image
Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco is an eye-feast for photographers (as is the entire city by the way.)
I shot this image along Jefferson Street near the Old Wharf which is just a few steps away from the iconic Pier 39.
While the image may look a bit boring upon first glance, I still like it – because it enables us to discover the (sometimes small) changes of the place.
Comparing this view with recent Google Streetview images, I see that the parking lane on the right has been removed completely. The Radisson Hotel seems to be gone as well. And Tarantino’s Restaurant on the left? Well, it is still there and will soon (in 2026) celebrate its 80th anniversary!
I need to return rather sooner than later.
