The story behind the image

Did I mention that we had mixed weather when we were in Paris this spring? I did.

Here is another proof: We visited the Galeries Lafayette Haussmann (which is not an art gallery, btw., but a premium retail store.) And we wanted to see their rooftop patio. We had entered the store when the weather was still okay and spent some time admiring the exquisite interior, including their glasswalk. We even browsed their products and purchased something.

Then we went up to their rooftop because this promised splendid views across the city. And when we reached the rooftop, we had a big surprise: Not only was it raining heavily once more but the rooftop had been equipped with sun chairs and a bar!

And not just this. It was the time of the French Open at the Roland Garros tennis stadium, and the store had erected a giant screen that broadcasted selected tennis matches. This was certainly a great idea – if the weather is warm and sunny.

Now the sun chairs were all empty, and just these two men stood and watched the beginning of a tennis match on the screen. (The match was Iga Świątek vs. Naomi Ōsaka. Świątek won 7:6, 1:6, 7:5 and would later also win the tournament.)

Of course, we did not spend a long time up there, but it must be very, very nice if the weather is good. So, when in Paris, please do yourself a favor and plan for a visit at Galeries Lafayette Haussmann.
