The story behind the image
We headed from St. Andrews in Scotland towards Ballater. The real highlight of this leg of our trip was the Royal Deeside and Scotland’s Castle Trail which brought us to the small historic village of Braemar. A bit outside we stopped by at Braemar Castle, one of the many castles enroute. The 17th century building has been used as a hunting lodge, fortress, garrison and family home over time.
Braemar is situated within the Cairngorms National Park and is surrounded by the Grampian Mountains – making it a good fit for hikers, climbers and bicycler riders. In the center of the village a historic bridge crosses the Clunie Water. Next to the bridge is the Wishing Well of Braemar.
Braemar is also home to the famous annual Braemar Gathering and Highland Games which are usually held on the first Saturday in September. As we visited Braemar in July, we couldn’t attend one of these cool events.
Nice.
