The story behind the image
Carinthia in Austria is one of our most popular summer destinations as it offers a lot for families: large lakes, mountains, history, culture, and excellent food.
One of the many attractions is Innerkrems which features the northern entrance to the Nockalm Road which leads from Innerkrems to the Millstädter See, reaching roughly 2,000 meters altitude at its peak – a fantastic day trip with the opportunity for many stopovers.
We spent a few nights at the excellent Kinder- und Familienhotel Nockalm in Innerkrems so we could start early to explore the Nockalm Road. While it takes a while to get to Innerkrems through a narrow road with several turns, the tranquility up there is overwhelming. Fresh, tasty air combined with almost no traffic – it’s an unmissable experience in the nature of the mountains (with all ameneties you might expect.)
One morning we were greeted by this rainbow that had formed over the tree-covered mountains of Innerkrems. Fortunately, the rain had moved on by the time we entered the Nockalm Road.
