The story behind the image
I captured this photo of Schloss Linderhof (near Oberammergau) in Bavaria, Germany, on a beautiful winter day. It had been snowing for a couple of days, and when the sun came out we took the long drive from Munich to Ettal to visit Schloss Linderhof and enjoy the surroundings. However, it was very, very cold in the secluded mountains. I remember that the car displayed -18 °C outside temperature before we stepped out.
I like this shot for its sharpness and well balanced colors straight from the camera. While this does not sound too awesome today, back in 2001 it was. The camera was my very first digital camera, a Kodak DC 4800, which I had purchased earlier that year. Sure, the image is tiny (in terms of pixels) but it consistently delivered a decent quality, and I could see the results right away which was great – in the old analog times.
