The story behind the image
We had explored the maritime provinces of Canada already and were now for two nights in Québec, a truly beautiful and relaxed city. It was quite busy after the rural experiences of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, but it was also quite nice to be in a genuine city again with all amenities you might wish for.
Our hotel – the excellent Hôtel Château Laurier – was situated directly at Place George V and next to the Voltigeurs de Québec Armoury. Little did we know that this were just the ruins of the building which had been severely damaged by a fire on April 4, 2008.
This explains the Lego-like appearance of the roof which was just temporary for the duration of the reconstruction works.
The reconstruction was completed in spring 2018.
