The story behind the image
Need a bit of maritime spice in your life? Head for Eckernförde in Germany and enjoy the activity at the harbour! I can just sit there and watch the ships arriving and leaving, the seagulls roaming the harbour for fish, and breath the fresh and tasty air of the sea.
In my photo, the Platessa von Esbjerg, a historic two-mast vessel, leaves the harbour for a cruise on the Baltic Sea. The ship is owned and operated by the non-profit community Eiderdrift e.V. Since 1995, the community has been offering experiential educational and inclusive trips on the Baltic Sea for young people and adults with and without physical and mental disabilities . The idea behind this project is to enable community building on board a sailing ship that includes all people, bringing them together and getting to know sailing and immerse themselves in this exciting world.
The ship has its own homepage (in German) with more information on the ship and the community.
Exciting!
