The story behind the image
Monument Valley is – as the name suggests – monumental. During our 2003 trip to the U.S., we visited this awesome place. At first we hesitated a bit to explore the valley with our rental car – a sedan – but then we decided to go for it, and it was absolutely worth the effort. It allowed us to stop as required to take countless photos showing the majestic landscape in all its beauty. (In a way it’s good that we had just analog film back then, otherwise we would have shot hundreds, if not thousands, of photos there.)
We entered the park in the late afternoon and took our time to drive slowly to all of the key attractions, and some more.
This photo shows the red Merrick Butte against the deeply saturated blue sky (with the help of my polarized filter). The old tree adds to the not-from-this-world look.
Awesome.
