The story behind the image

In 2004 we visited friends in Switzerland who took us the top of the Schilthorn mountain, located south-east of the Swiss capital Bern.

They recommended to visit the Schilthorn mountain, because it is less crowded, and it allows you to see the major attraction of the aera – the three mountains Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. Obviously you can’t do that if you go up to those three giants! Your ascend to the Schilthorn begins in the village Lauterbrunnen with its tall Staubbachfall waterfalls.

Our (safe) adventure began as we took the train to Mürren, a car-free village in the mountains, and then changed to the cableway that brought us to the top.

My photo shows the top of the Schilthorn mountain. The turning restaurant called Piz Gloria performs a full rotation in 55 Minutes and offers spectacular views of the mountains opposite of the Schilthorn. If you think you have seen the location before – you probably have! In 1968 the movie On her Majesty’s Secret Service with George Lazenby as James Bond 007 had been filmed here.

Read more about the restaurant and mountain at the excellent Schilthorn Piz Gloria Homepage.

Awesome.
