The story behind the image
When you visit Vancouver, B.C., you will definitely want to explore Stanley Park. It’s close to the city center and offers plenty of space for recreation and relaxation. As a bonus, there are many stunning views to be discovered – the Vancouver skyline, North Vancouver, and the seaside, of course.
You can use the Stanley Park Seawall Path to conveniently circle the island. When we did this, we were stunned to find a copy of Copenhagen’s Little Mermaid statue. Upon closer inspection we realized that the Vancouver statue is pretty modern as it really is a woman in a wetsuit that rests on the rock in the sea. I found this a perfect match for the city of Vancouver with its countless opportunities for outdoor activities. Scuba diving is certainly one of them.
The statue was unveiled in June 1972 by Hungarian sculptor Elek Imredy (1912-1994). Imredy immigrated to Canada in 1957 and gifted the statue to the Vancouver Park Board.
Nice.
