The story behind the image

We had made it to Swakopmund in Namibia, finally.

After a long and dreadful drive from Twyfelfontein through the Skeleton Coast National Park where we faced a closed gas station. Once out of the park, we found a gas station but it did not carry unleaded fuel. So, we drove towards Henties Bay ever so gently – another 90 kilometers from the park gate. Low RPM, and not too fast. As if this was not enough of a challenge, I had to change a tire!

In the end, everything turned out well. With the last drop of fuel (really!) we made it to Henties Bay. The petrol station carried unleaded fuel. And they were open!

We had just to make just the last 70 kilometers to Swakop. It turned out to be no problem as the road between Henties Bay and Swakopmund was in excellent condition, so without further problems on the last 70 kilometers we reached our lodge for the next two nights – The Stiltz, a fantastic lodge offering you bungalows perched on stiltz! You can guess how happy we were after all those challenges.

Now we had ample time to explore Swakopmund and the nearby Walvis Bay. In Swakopmund we walked along the long beach. The wind was blowing strongly, and the waves clashed against The Jetty pier. These two guys, however, kept on angling, just as if there was no wind at all.
