The story behind the image

When you are staying in Moab, Utah, please consider planning at least half a day for Arches National Park, one of the really impressive parks in the region.

This photo shows the rock formation Adam and Eve which is part of the Garden of Eden, located about 10 miles from the visitor center. I deliberately included the tree in the frame to add some drama. But the photo works just as well when cropped to put the focus on the rock formation.

Whether cropped or not, the formation on the right – Adam – resembles a slim person with a large head. It’s easy to recognize eyes, nose, and mouth, created over centurie by nature. (Eve, however, looks more like a lion to me.)

By the way, National Park Service has a useful entry-level guide for photographers that shows which attractions should be visited in the (early) morning and which in the (late) afternoon. According to this guide, the Garden of Eden looks best during the (late) afternoon.
