The story behind the image
When you are staying in Moab, you should plan half a day for Canyonlands National Park as well. It’s not as popular as other national parks in the area (especially Arches National Park), but it’s well worth the side trip.
Its major attraction certainly is the Mesa Arch which is beautiful in the mornings when the sun illuminates the arch from behind, especially at sunrise.
Another stunning location is the Green River Overlook pictured above, just about two miles away from Mesa Arch. You get to see the Green River which has dug its path through the rock as well as several rock formations in the distance like the Orange Cliffs, Ekker Butte, or Turks Head. An information poster provides all the details.
When we got to the viewpoint we were alone – no other tourists, hikers, cars, or buses, disturbed the experience. For me, it was truly overwhelming to see this beauty in total silence!
