The story behind the image

In 2022, we visited San Marino, a tiny country situated within Italy, not far from Rimini. We drove to the parking lot at the valley station of the Funivia, the cable car that brings you conveniently directly to the historic Città di San Marino on top of the mountain. You’ll be able to enjoy spectacular views in all directions as well as rather quiet (for the lack of traffic) walks through the historic town center and along the walls of the fortress. Several shops offer reasonably priced jewellery, watches, clothes, and souvenirs.

This photo shows the panorama towards south-west, across lower quarters of San Marino. The gentle hills in the back are already Italian territory.

If you’re visiting the area, we definitely suggest a side trip to San Marino.
