The story behind the image
In 1999, we travelled for three weeks across Ireland. We spent the first few nights in Dubln and then headed for Bray in County Wicklow, slightly south of Dublin at the east coast, because we wanted to visit the Wicklow Mountains. Sadly, in our case, the weather was wet, very wet. We had a lot of rain, and if it did not rain, there were deep gray clouds that carried more rain. Still, visiting Jerpoint Abbey, Powerscourt Desmesne, and Glendalough, was worth it.
On our way towards Wexford, our stop for the night, we also passed Rathdrum where I spotted the McGrath lawnmower shop on Main Street, right next to the church. The shop presented lawnmowers, concrete mixers and other tools on the curb in front of the building – an interesting sight for someone coming from the city.
The shop apparently did not survive, though. It seems to have been given up between 2009 and 2022, and so this image is a witness for the way the McGrath team used to sell their inventory.
