The story behind the image
On our long trip through Italy in 2000 we drove from Tuscany through the countryside towards south. This meant that we had not seen a beach since we had left Munich in Germany. Sure, we had seen the sea at the cliffs of Cinque Terre and Lerici in the North, but there were no beaches.
Finally the time had come to hit the west coast again. And we wanted to be as close as possible to the sea, so we opted for a camp site (Camping Sabaudia back then.) Just a simple street (the Lungomare) and the dunes separated the camp site from the beach, and we had a wonderful time. Along the beach, there were multiple restaurants serving delicious sea food!
The beach was clean, and there was plenty of room for everyone. Admittedly, high season had already passed, but it was hard to imagine that this looong beach could possibly get overcrowded.
My photo shows one of the boardwalks that lead visitors over the sensitive dunes down to the beach. I love the clear, saturated colors of the morning light.
Awesome.
