The story behind the image
Exactly 14 years ago we travelled the Costa Verde – the “Green Coast” – in Sardinia. We drove all the way down to Piscinas. The last couple of kilometers were just gravel along the gently curved green hills that gave this part of the west coast its name. At the end we were greeted by lots of parking lots, the premium Hotel Le Dune Piscinas, and a beautiful, long beach with white sand.
Not far away from the beach, we found these lorries. They are remains of the times when the close-by village Ingurtosu was an active mine. The ore would be transported from Ingurtosu to Piscinas where it was stored before being shipped from the tiny harbour.
