The story behind the image
Petra and I got married exactly 21 years ago on 30th August 2003. One year before we went on a fantastic journey to Western Canada. While we had experienced some stunning trips together before – to Ireland (1999) and Italy (2000) – this trip to British Columbia and Alberta was among the best trips ever.
We had planned to cover most of the western provinces in three weeks, including Vancouver Island and the rarely visited Bella Coola area. Of course, the Canadian Rocky Monutains were on our schedule as well.
I took plenty rolls of slide film and shot about 1,400 images during the trip. This may not sound very much today when you can easily capture 1,500 images at a wedding on a single day. Back in the days of film, this meant 38 rolls of film, and this was A LOT, really. 🙂
This picture shows Petra and me as we pose for a nice selfie on the Edith Cavell Trail near Mount Edith Cavell in the Jasper National Park. We both look so relaxed and happy, and a lot younger than today! (Oh my.)
21 years already! Thank you, Petra, for an amazing ride.
