The story behind the image
Back in 1999 I visited Bologna in Italy for the very first time, and I immediately fell in love with the city. While we explored the streets I encountered several attractive locations, and situations that were just typical for Italy.
Take this photo as an example. The Via Bertiera is a plain, narrow street located in the maze of streets just a few steps away from the city center. There is nothing special about it, really, except its narrowness. Despite being close to the center, it was a bit run-down in 1999.
Back then, a few tiny cars were parked at the side of the street, but other cars were squeezing through as well. The Vespa motorbike that rushed by was clearly at an advantage.
Today, 25 years after I took my image, very little has changed. The street is as narrow as it always was, tiny cars are still squeezed to the buildings, the Hotel Holiday is still operating, but there is more grafitti now.
