The story behind the image
I am not a big fan of the so-called ‘love locks’ that have become a common theme over the past 15 years or so. I like the concept of people showing to the world in a beautiful spot that they are in love with someone (or rather ‘were in love at that point in time’.) That’s sweet, somehow.
But there are negative effects as well: the masses of locks damage the public infrastructure (namely, bridges and fences made from steel) and can also drastically change the look of a location. In some places it has become difficult to shoot a decent picture of a building or bridge that does not show some of the (dreaded) locks.
Yet, every now and then I take a photo when I come across particulary nice locks like these in Paris, France. Here, I like the fact that the person who locked it expresses his love to the city of Paris. There’s the Eiffel Tower and two hearts, and the word Paris, and more hearts. The relatively large aperture creates a thin depth of field that puts the focus on the Paris lock while the others already blur. (I havenot touched the lock, so it could well be that the names of the lovers are on the back.)
Timeless.
