The story behind the image
We entered Arizona when we crossed the Colorado River near Topock. We left the well maintained Highway 40 and headed north on the Oatman highway, towards Kingman, our final destination for the day.
As much as we liked the smooth driving on highway 40, we were looking for a more authentic experience and thought that the ‘real’ highway 66 would be perfect. There was significantly less traffic, which was nice, too. But – the sunset was approaching, and we had not even made it to the curvy part of the highway!
In any event, I wanted to capture this moment and place. The sunlight dipped the landscape into a super warm color tone, and there was this sober sign announcing the Historic Highway 66.
We finally made it to Kingman, but it took us much longer than expected.
