The story behind the image
County Cork in Ireland is a beautiful space. On our way from the busy city of Cork towards Bantry, a town at the west coast, we took our time to follow the coastline. One of the villages enroute was Glandore. Several houses, a church, a tiny harbour. It’s really a “blink, and you’ll miss it” place.
But we found this statement does not do the village justice. So we stopped the engine and stepped out to relax and enjoy the tasty and mild maritime air. We were way too early to start looking for a B&B or hotel for the night, so – after a while – we continued our trip. Little did we know that we would be driving a lot longer than expected because we couldn’t find a B&B or hotel in Bantry. And we finally stayed in Ballylickey, a village north of Bantry. (This was before the ubiquitous availability of affordable mobile networks!)
Looking at recent photographs of Glandore I see that the area has not changed at all over the past 25 years. Personally, I like this idea of continuity.
