The story behind the image
Olhão in Portugal is an attractive destination for those who expect more than beautiful beaches: You’ll get a vibrant, beautiful city, lots of history – and unusual nature! At the lagoons near Olhão you will Saline fields that are still being used to produce sea salt. During flood they can be filled up with salty water from the Atlantic Ocean, which then dries off during ebb tide, leaving just the salt behind. Repeat this often, and you get decent sea salt.
My photo shows the boats that have been moored near one of the saline fields. During ebb they will slowly drop to the wet, sandy soil of the lagoon.
