The story behind the image
Knight’s Town is a small community at the east end of Valentia Island in Ireland. Most tourists who visit the island come at least once to the town – either when they come or leave as it provides the ferry service to Reenard Point on the mainland, or when they explore the island.
We came from Portmagee and had explored the island. Now we were waiting for our ferry to Reenard Point and enjoyed the maritime atmosphere.
Knight’s Town is best known for the first trans-atlantic communication cable that ended in the town in the 1850s. Back in 1999, there used to be a pub called The Cable’s End, and its owner could tell you everything about the cable. The pub has closed long ago, and today you can simply visit Wikipedia or atlantic-cable.com to read an exciting recount of the efforts laying this historic link.
For thoses seeking genuine tranquility, I recommend Knight’s Town and Valentia Island as perfect destinations.
