The story behind the image
The Starnberg district has officially the highest income in Germany. The per capita purchasing power is about 38,700 Euros (41,900 US$ at the time of writing), which is about 40 percent above the national average. And you can see and feel this wealth whereever you go. It’s all clean and tidy, and the mild lake climate is welcome during the summer.
We visited the town in 2005 to experience the last day of the Volvo Champions Race, a sailing competition on the lake. On our way towards the racing ground, I took this nice image of the traditional colorful boat houses at the lake, right next to the promenade.
