The story behind the image
Here’s another stunning view of the Western Cliffs of Santa Cruz in California. We had left San Francisco to enter the original Highway Number 1 (instead of its larger and faster twin, the highway 101.) We had plenty of time as we had planned to stay in Pacific Grove for our first night outside of San Francisco which was not that far away.
Of course, we had to stop in Santa Cruz to admire the beaches and the very relaxed maritime atmosphere. My photo shows the Natural Bridges State Beach with the fabulous view along the western cliffs. The perfect location to capture beautiful sunsets (but we were too early).
By the way, when you walk over to the opposite side of the beach (i.e. towards the right edge of my image) you can see the large rock in the sea with a nice hole. It almost looks like a natural bridge and is the origin of the beach name.
