The story behind the image
Here’s an awesome view of the Western Cliffs of Santa Cruz in California. We had left San Francisco to enter the original Highway Number 1 (instead of its larger and faster twin, the highway 101.) We had plenty of time as we had planned to stay in Pacific Grove for our first night outside of San Francisco which was not that far away.
Of course, we had to stop in Santa Cruz to admire the beaches and the very relaxed maritime atmosphere. From the Mark Abbot Memorial Lighthouse you have beautiful views along the western cliffs that are perfect for sunsets (but we were too early) and you can watch the surfers on days with big waves (but there were none on that afternoon in 2002.)
