The story behind the image
Back in 2003 we spontaneously booked a scenic flight in San Francisco, starting at the Seaplane Base at the main entrance of Pier 39. At that time, the company – Seaplane Adventures – operated a de Havilland Beaver directly from the pier. (By now they have moved their base to Sausalito.)
I realized once more how attractive the cockpit was looking, especially the panel with the controls for throttle, propeller RPM, and mixture, in the center. The black metal with countless scratches and the sturdy levers that will (hopefully) survive many decades – simply stunning.
So I took a close-up of the panel after our return to the pier. I think it is an eyecatcher for flight enthusiasts and tech lovers.
