The story behind the image
Back in 2003 we spontaneously booked a scenic flight in San Francisco, starting at the Seaplane Base at the main entrance of Pier 39. We simply could not resist.
Back then, there was just one company that offered such flights: Seaplane Adventures. They operated a deHavilland Beaver directly from the pier (but by now they have moved their base to Sausalito.)
Right after take-off, the pilot took a steep turn right towards the Oakland Bay Bridge and along the skyline of San Francisco.
A once-in-a-lifetime moment.
