The story behind the image
During our recent trip to Paris in France I re-discovered my love for the city. Once back, I began searching for a decent historic photo of the Eiffel Tower that I could share with you. And I found one!
This original cabinet photo shows the caption:
PARIS – La Tour Eiffel, vue prise du Champ de Mars.
but – sadly! – it does not mention the name of the photographer or studio. At least, the date is mentioned: October 1897. This date makes perfect sense to me and seem to be in line with other historic photographs of the Eiffel Tower of the period.
Despite its age of 126 years, the cabinet photo is in very good condition. I really like the fact that it is definitely an eyecatcher for most uses. Of course, that’s because the building itself is a stunning master piece (even today) and because the details in the image can transport the viewer into the year 1897 and imagine how the place looked back then.
Very, very nice.
