The story behind the image
I started my photography career with a Canon AE-1 Program that my mother purchased in 1982 to replace both her Kodak Retinette 1B and her Polaroid camera.
I used the body for more than two decades, and you can read the entire story in my Gear Talk #6. Despite having sworn to never use an analog camera again when I finally switched to a decent DSLR in 2005, the work on my website triggered my interest in analog photography again. (Yep, never say never…!)
So I started looking for a used Canon AE-1 Program body in silver, ideally with an original 50mm lens attached which was the standard (kit) lens back then. I found one, and purchased it for little money.
The first step was to shoot a couple of decent photos of the body. Here’s a close-up, shot with the a Canon EF100mm f/2.8L Macro at fully opened aperture. Ah, I just love the blur in the back. I love the realistic colors (green, red, orange). And I love that focusing on the f-stop ring has worked out so well. 🙂
Sweet.
