The story behind the image
Back in the good old days of film, there were a few (fortunately rather short) black-and-white periods for me. 1999, for example. I took a couple black and white films to Ireland (Ilford FP4 and HP5) to explore b&w photography further.
Here is an image showing the remains of the Cistercian Abbey in Abbeylara, a small village in Co. Longford. I think the genuine black-and-white works well for this photo. The historic gravestones on the left underline to the gloomy subtext of the image. Find out more about the abbey.
Looking at recent images, I see that the place has not changed at all over the past 25 years. This does not surprise me, as the abbey was built in 1205, so at the time of my photo it had survived almost eight centuries.
