The story behind the image
The Hotel Paris Bastille in Paris turned out to be an excellent choice for our stay. Not only was it close to the city center (but not too close), it was fairly affordable, the breakfast was great, and our room (# 604) had a fantastic view at the Place de la Bastille and the opera. Plus, the Metro station was just a few steps away.
My photo shows a view during the blue hour from our room along the Rue de Lyon at the Place de la Bastille with the illuminated monument in the back.
This image from my Samsung phone required little editing, which proves that smartphone photography has matured tremendously over the past decade. I believe that the developers applied some HDR magic automatically but I’m not sure. By the way, the EXIF data claims an exposure time of one second. I doubt this, because I did not use a tripod but leaned on the small handrail in front of the window to keep the camera steady.
Anyway, I love the look of the image.
