The story behind the image
Back in the good old days of film, there were a few, rather short, black-and-white periods for me. 1994, for example. I took a couple of black and white films to the wedding of a friend in central UK. This turned out to be a really bad idea – the black-and-white films, not the wedding itself – as most photos had a dark, almost gothic touch to it.
Anyway, we stayed at the The Connaught Hotel in Wolverhampton because the wedding party would take place here as well.
I took this photo of its main entrance so I would have something that would remind me of the hotel. Most certainly, the outside was not beautiful by any means, and sadly, the black-and-white photography made it look even worse. But I remember good, clean, and affordable, rooms and a very good service at the wedding party! After all, this is what counts. 🙂
At the time of writing, the hotel is still active and looks very similar to 1994 (and much more inviting than on my photo.)
My conclusion? Be very careful with black-and-white photography.
