The story behind the image
We spent the last week in Paris to explore the city. I have been several times to this beautiful city before (2000/2001, 1997, 1988, and 1979.) So, this trip was a bit of a time ride for me.
We could not resist to visit the Galeries Lafayette Haussmann (which is not an art gallery, btw., but a premium retail store.) And boy, I was as impressed as back in 1988. The aisles were full with shoppers, and I could tell they were not just window-shopping.
Of course, I remembered my shot from 1988, and tried to capture a similar angle. But what was that? There was an alien object between the magnificent roof and my location! They had built a glasswalk that enables visitors to stay for a few minutes high above the most prestigious brands you can imgine. While I couldn’t go there due to my fear of heights, Petra and Clara did and reported a stunning experience.
Anyway, for this shot I used the widest angle that the lens supported (18 mm, which translates to roughly 28 mm on a full format body and captured the colored glass roof and the warm lights below.
Very, very nice. When in Paris, do yourself a favor and plan for a visit at Galeries Lafayette Haussmann (and make sure you book a ticket for the glasswalk in advance.)
